MicroSD Memory Card - Micro SD cards (also referred to as microSD) were at first called T-Flash, then TransFlash before ultimately being renamed as microSD when they were adopted by the SD Card Association (SDA). The micro SD was originally produced by SanDisk in 2005. As the name implies, the micro SD card is essentially an SD card, but in a much smaller package - typically the size of a fingernail. It was designed specifically to be one of the smallest removable flash memory card formats. MicroSD cards were specifically designed for use in some of the following applications: cell phones, GPS devices and portable audio players and expandable USB flash memory drives. MicroSD cards can also be used in SD-compatible devices via an SD adapter.

The microSD card was initially invented to meet the telecommunication industry’s needs for making cell phones smaller.  As a result it is much smaller than a SD Memory Card and measures only measuring 15mm x 11mm x 1mm.
